Re-launch the Cosmo with Champagne Thursday

You will need to gather a group for this one, for it’s a pretty big dose of pink sparkly juice which just might get you into that silly mood. Then again, two is enough, as long as it’s the right company.

Unless you’re planning to get plastered alone in front of good ol’ TiVo during a Meg Ryan “Sleepless in Seattle” or Amanda Seyfried “Letters to Juliet” kind of night, in which case stock up on tons of tissues to wipe those tears which will spontaneously be flowing down your cheeks, when you see that super Hollywood kiss at the end, right before the credits.

Get a grip and instead, invite some friends and make it Champagne night.  Not getting too far off the original subject and from SJP, for as you probably recall, this whole Cosmopolitan blog did start with Sex in the City’s Cosmopolitan, her character Carrie Bradshaw’s favorite drink.  Try it out, maybe you’ll cheer up or maybe you won’t, but you will be Cosmo.

In the 2006 movie “Failure To Launch”, Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her terminally hip roommate Kit (Zooey Deschanel) celebrate Champagne Thursdays, which by the way, doesn’t necessarily mean that it in fact is Thursday.  Therefore, any day can be Champagne Thursday which might just do the trick and you’ll get inspired.

Here’s a Champagne Cosmopolitan Cocktail to try, for a party of 6 (supposedly)

You will need:

  • 1 cup (8½ oz 250ml) cranberry juice
  • 2 tbs (1oz or 30ml) Cointreau
  • 2 tbs (1oz or 30ml) fresh lime juice
  • sugar cubes (as many as there will be servings)
  • 1 bottle (750ml or about 25oz) chilled pink Champagne or sparkling wine

Get cooking!
Bring the cranberry juice to a boil over high heat in a medium saucepan. Continue cooking for about 10 minutes or until a third evaporates.  Set aside to cool about 30 minutes.
In a small jug, combine the cooked (boiled, really) cranberry juice with Cointreau and lime juice.  Put a sugar cube into each glass and pour the cranberry mix topping with Champagne or sparkling wine and serve immediately (so that you don’t lose the bubbles!).

Be sure to get back to me and share how it turned out :-)
